Relationships built with both students and teachers have been a driving force in LaMisa Moore’s 13-year career as a Pre-K teachers assistant at T.G. McCord Elementary. LaMisa was named McCord Elementary’s Staff Member of the Year for 2022-2023 and says those relationships keep her coming back year after year.
“I enjoy running into students who have grown up over the years and are now young adults with jobs and them remembering me as Ms. Misa,” she said. “The 4 to 5 age group are the best storytellers and they enjoy all the big smiles and hugs you have to give. They love to show and tell you every detail – from the wilted flower picked from the playground to the bugs collected over the weekends. These are the fond memories I will always carry with me.”
LaMisa assists teaches with small/large groups, supervises classrooms of 15 to 20-plus students during lunchtime, P.E. and on field trips. She also assists and mentors individual students or students in groups, engage in one-on-one student assignments and helps those students with behavioral issues. Working with teachers to implement classroom assignments, anchor charts and group discussions are also some of her duties. “I believe my strongest trait is attention to detail,” LaMisa said. “This trait has helped me tremendously working with the 4 to 5 age group. I’m a team player, an adaptable person and always strive to have effective communication and reliable feedback with my Pre-K team and fellow coworkers.
“The teachers I’ve worked under have taught me to be who I am today,” she continued. “I’ve learned from them, and leaned on them, to be who every student has needed to succeed and reach their full potential. I’ve called it the beginning, the middle and the end, and knowing and seeing that they’ve gotten it with big smiles!”
A graduate of Quanah High School, LaMisa graduated from Vernon College with honors in May of 2004 with a Certificate of Completion in Child Development. Her daughter, Berkley Elain, is a fourth grader at Shive Elementary School.
Her hobbies include reading, cooking, scrapbooking, shopping, dancing, traveling and spending time with family.
