Today is School Nurse's Day and we have 3 of the best there is. Amanda Thomas, Jennifer Walker and Rhonda Garrett -- for all of the runny noses you've wiped; the scraped knees you've bandaged; the upset stomachs you've helped settle and everything in between -- we THANK YOU!! VISD is lucky to have the 3 of you providing health care, and at times health education, at our campuses!

Valley ISD reached out to area school districts concerning a first grade student who has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Valley ISD is holding a fundraiser "Hats On For Paxton" tomorrow to help the young man and his family, and Vernon ISD is joining in. For a $1 donation, students, teachers and staff will be allowed to wear their cap/hat in class. Teachers will collect donations in their classrooms.

6th Grade -- Alina Guerrero & Deavon Henslee
7th Grade -- Joselyn Cordoba & Austin Averitt

We all know that it takes a village to put on any type of an event, but it also takes a leader. We would like to give Coach Edwin Bah a shout out for leading the way for our All-Star Olympics that was held here Monday for our Life Skills students and for helping take them to compete yesterday in Altus. We would also like to thank all the coaches, teachers, staff and students who helped make it a special day for our special students. I think we enjoyed as much, if not more, than they did. Seeing all of the smiles was priceless!

Today is National School Lunch Hero Day and we want to give a HUGE shoutout to our VISD cafeteria workers. We appreciate their work in ensuring our cafeterias serve good, nutritional meals to our students. They go above and beyond for our students!! Thank you for all that you do!!

Today is School Principal's Day! Vernon ISD has some outstanding principals who work hard to make their school campuses the best they can be. We greatly appreciate all that they do for their students, teachers and staff!!

Under UIL guidelines, all incoming 7th, 9th, and 11th grade students for the 2024-25 school year are required to undergo a sports physical if they plan on participating in ANY school sponsored sport. Also included are any students in the 8th, 10th or 12th grade who suffered an injury that required surgery within the last year. Here is a great opportunity from Wilbarger General Hospital to get that sports physical for free. Vernon ISD athletes need to pick up the sports physical paperwork from their coaches or trainer Brian Weatherly.

Congratulations to our VMS Students of the Week:
6th Grade -- Madison Daniel & Cayson Streit
7th Grade -- Avril Avitia & Grant Penter
8th Grade -- Giselle Clemente & Jesse Mejia
Great job!! Keep up the great work!!
