After missing school four days due to winter weather, we know there have been some questions concerning the remainder of our 2025-26 school calendar. In the letter below, Vernon ISD Interim Supt. Dr. Blaise Boswell explains where the district currently stands on that issue..

Today is the first school day in February and here here is our VISD Cafeteria Menu for February. Remember that all Vernon ISD students are eligible to receive a free breakfast and lunch in our campus cafeterias. Here's to a great February -- even though the groundhog saw his shadow, which gives us a forecast of 6 more weeks of winter.

The annual public hearing for the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 16, at the Vernon ISD Administration Building in the Boardroom.

Vernon ISD will now be operating on a 2-hour delay start today. Buses will run 2 hours late. We look forward to seeing all of our students and staff.

Vernon ISD will be operating on its regular schedule on Thursday. VISD administrators will be out early in the morning driving roads and checking conditions. If we go to a delay start, we will send out information via Facebook, our Vernon ISD App, and by text as early as possible in the morning. Please be aware there are still a few slick spots around town on the side roads, so please take extra caution driving in those areas. We look forward to seeing all of our students and staff tomorrow!!

Vernon ISD administrators have announced VISD will be closed Tuesday due to the road conditions from the winter weather. We expect to be on our regular schedule Wednesday. If that changes, we will let everyone know as soon as possible. Vernon's basketball games scheduled for Tuesday evening in Holliday have been postponed.

This afternoon, Vernon ISD Athletic Director and Lions Head Football Coach Kevin Sherrill announced he was leaving after serving in those roles for five years. Other than his first year in Vernon, the Lions have made the playoffs every season, winning two playoff games and reaching the regional quarterfinal round in both 2024 and 2025. Out of an abundance of caution, Vernon ISD is canceling school for tomorrow, 1/23/2026. All schools and offices will be closed. The Vernon Boys and Girls Club will also be closed.

Due to the winter weather that is expected to hit the area Friday afternoon, Vernon ISD will be operating on our regular Early Release Schedule tomorrow. PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE WEATHER, THE VERNON BOYS & GIRLS CLUB WILL NOT BE OPEN TOMORROW.

Students in Ms. Smith's and Mrs. Pedigo's kindergarten classes have been learning about community helpers and first responders. In a special way to bring that learning to life, the students wrote thank-you letters to McCord SRO and VISD Director of Safety & Security, Lt. Autumn Thames. And, they were able to deliver those letters in person.
