Yesterday, Mrs. McCurley pre-K students had a great time making their special pumpkin pie together for their Thanksgiving taste test. Students tried turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and of course their pumpkin pie and voted on the one they liked the best.
Tomorrow, parents have two opportunities to attend a Gifted and Talented Information Meeting. Learn the difference between a gifted student and a high achiever. Due to the Lions playing their Class 3A Area Round Playoff Game on Thursday night, Vernon ISD will operate on an early release schedule on THURSDAY! The district will also operate on an early release schedule on Friday. The early release on Friday was on the original school calendar.
REMINDER!! Tomorrow is an Early Release Friday for our Vernon ISD students.
Vernon will be hosting a Class 2A, Division 2 Football Bi-District Playoff game tonight between the Electra Tigers and the Wheeler Mustangs. The game will kick off at 7 p.m., at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Senior Citizen passes will be accepted. HOWEVER, Vernon ISD athletic passes and Vernon ISD teacher badges will NOT be accepted.

It's a 3-day weekend coming up for our VISD students, as they are out of school on Nov. 11 for a teacher professional development day. Classes will begin on our regular schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Vernon ISD will be honoring our local veterans at the football Friday night. We have asked four veterans to raise the United States and Texas Flags, and we are inviting Armed Forces veterans to join them at the flagpoles.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month and to show support for our district students and staff who live with diabetes, VISD is encouraging all students and staff to wear blue every Thursday of the month.
There will be a runoff between Jarrod David and Kyle Echols for Place 3 on the VISD school board. No candidate received a majority of the votes. Here are the vote totals:

Our McCord Elementary students held their own election today, as they went to the polls to cast their ballot for presidential nominees Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. After marking their ballot, students placed it in the ballot box and received a stamp of the United States flag on the back of their hand. It's never too early to teach children the importance of civic responsibility and of the privileges we have living in the United States of America.
Nomination period for our Vernon ISD Gifted & Talented Program will begin on Nov. 12 and continue until Dec. 20. An informational meeting for parents will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19. There will be 2 opportunities for parents to attend the meeting. One meeting will be held at 1 p.m., in the boardroom at the VISD Administration Building, and the second meeting will be held at 6 p.m., in the VHS Media Center.
Last week, our McCord students were entertained with The NED Show. The character education program centered around the story of NED, which stands for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.
