This afternoon at 1:40 p.m., a report of a smell of smoke in a classroom at McCord Elementary School was made to Interim Principal Scott Hogue. Mr. Hogue immediately ordered a fire drill and the building was evacuated.
Vernon ISD officials entered the classroom where the smell of smoke was located trying to locate the source. Vernon Fire Department personnel arrived and discovered a smoldering LED ballast. Fire Department personnel soon gave the all-clear allowing students, teachers and staff to enter the building and return to their classrooms.
Assistant Superintendent Blaise Boswell said an electrician has been contacted and the classroom will not be used until the light has been repaired. Boswell praised the students and staff for the great job they did on following fire drill procedures.

Today is Paraprofessional Appreciation Day! We have paraprofessionals at each campus who help our students and our teachers with hundreds of things, and sometimes it may seem like that help goes unnoticed. But, we notice and appreciate all of you each and every day! Our "paras" play a role in Vernon ISD's success!

The VHS tennis team competed in the Amarillo Relays Tennis Tournament last Thursday and brought home two Top 3 finishes.
