It was definitely a fun time around here today at McCord! We had a lot of "new" students roaming the halls.

There was a variety of colors walking the halls Thursday as it was "Color Wars By Grade!!" to go along with yesterday's Red Ribbon Week theme of "War Against Drugs." This week, VISD joined schools across the nation participating in Red Ribbon Week to help fight the war against drugs and education students on drug awareness.

Our Lions are hosting Iowa Park in a football game here Friday night, but there's alot going on before, in the middle, and after the game. Check out the graphic below. So...plan to come early and stay late to cheer on and support all of our VISD students!!

Wednesday was the last day for snacks through the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program, and in staying with the holiday coming up on Friday, the fruit for the day was Blood Oranges. Every Monday and Wednesday during the month of October, our McCord students got to try a special fruit or vegetable -- some of which the students had never eaten before -- during their snack time. This is the second year for Vernon ISD to receive the FFVP grant for McCord.

There was an abundance of red roaming around McCord Wednesday, as the Red Ribbon Week theme for yesterday was "Wear Red For Red Ribbon Week -- Are You Red-y To Be Drug-Free?" This week is designated as Red Ribbon Week, as schools ban together across the nation to fight the war on drugs.

Here are a few more pictures from Tuesday when the Red Ribbon Week theme was "Students Become Teachers. Teachers Become Students -- Swap Out Drugs For A Better Life."

Some of our students nailed the look of a teacher today as they took part in today's theme for Red Ribbon Week -- "Students Become Teachers, Teachers Become Students -- Swap Out Drugs For A Better Life." Dressing as Coach Christopher seemed to be a popular choice, but a few of the boys absolutely nailed the look of paraprofessional Nathan Smith!

Our students and staff had fun with yesterday's Red Ribbon Week theme of "Pajama Day -- Follow Your Dreams, Don't Do Drugs."

Our kindergarten Students of the Week for last week are Emilia Mullins, Kyle Baskerville, Dylan Azahares Nunez, and Kinsley Kipferl. Not pictured are Jeremy Silva-Sanchez, Kingston Ochoa, and Ezekiel Nino. Congrats!!

Congratulations to these pre-kindergarten Students of the Week for last week: Liam Cook, Jasly Urdaneta Carrasco, Allayna Pryor, and Rosalie Escobar. Great job!! Keep up the good work!!

Next week is Red Ribbon Week and all of our campuses will be participating in the activities, as we fight the war on drugs. It should be a fun week for our students.

Students in Ms. Chavira's class went on a field trip this morning and visited a pumpkin patch. It looks like everyone had a lot of fun!

Just a reminder that our Vernon Middle School football and volleyball games are being played tonight in Bowie, along with our JV football game being played in Vernon.
