Throughout the next couple of weeks, parents and students will be able to access their STAAR and EOC scores in the TEA Family Portal. There are two ways that this can be done. 1. The easiest way to access the scores is through Skyward. Here is a video to show you how to access those scores through Skyward: https://screenpal.com/watch/c01tYLVgQjg 2. Go to the TEA Family Portal located at www.texasassessment.gov. To login to the TEA Family Portal you will need the following: - Unique Student Access Code (The Unique Student Access Code can be found on any previous STAAR Report Cards) - Date of Birth - Legal first name. Here are the dates that the scores will be available in the TEA Family Portal: June 7: EOC (High School) Results June 12: TELPAS Results June 14: STAAR 3-8 Results June 20: STAAR Alt 2 Results If your student was not enrolled in Vernon ISD at the end of the 2023-2024 school year, they may not have access through Skyward. If anyone is unable to access the scores through Skyward, please email chantilly.sweet@visdtx.org and provide your student's name, campus and grade level.

We're only a week into our summer vacation, but it's never too early to begin thinking about 2024-25! With that in mind, here is the 2024 Vernon Lion football schedule. Mark your calendars!

Remember our Lion/Lady Lion Basketball Camp is June 25-27. The deadline to register for the camp and get a camp t-shirt is June 4.

Last week VISD held a Lions Roar Recognition Ceremony where special award were presented for the 2023-24 school year. Awards were presented to the Teachers and Staff of the Year at each campus, retirees were honored, a local business was recognized as the Lion's Pride Partner of the Year, and the Newcomer Teacher of the Year, Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year were announced.

Last week VISD held a Lions Roar Recognition Ceremony where special award were presented for the 2023-24 school year. Longevity awards were presented to employees who had been with the district for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years, along with recognizing PTO members, VISD trustees and the VISD Retired Teacher Award.

Wednesday, our kindergarten students spent their morning at Lion Stadium participating in their annual Field Day. They had a blast competing in the 30-yard dash, sack race, softball throw, shuttle race, egg & spoon race and more.

All campuses will be on an early release schedule on Thursday and on Friday, the final day of our 2023-24 school year!!

On Tuesday, our 1st grade students spent their morning at Lion Stadium participating in their annual Field Day. They had a blast competing in the sack race, softball throw, shuttle race, egg race and more.

Some of our VISD students have been recommended for summer school. If your child has been recommended for summer school, you should have received a letter with a QR code. The QR code allows you to register your child for summer school. If you need assistance with registering your child, in person registration will be at VMS in the Library on May 29th and 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

If your child has medication at their school, please stop by and pick it up by the last day of school. The medication cannot be sent home with the student and it cannot stay at the school during the summer. If you have any questions, please contact your campus school nurse.

Tomorrow it will be Donuts with Dad at McCord. The fun event will start at 7 a.m., in the cafeteria. Dads, please use the cafeteria entrance, the south door, to enter the building.

Last week was Science Week for our 1st grade students and several science events were held throughout the week. One day high school students from Mrs. Allison Stanley's physics class and they did several experiments with the students. Those experiments included: spontaneous combustion with glycerin and potassium permanganate then elephant toothpaste! The high school students then grouped up with the first graders and competed to build the tallest tower out of marshmallows and toothpicks. The tallest tower was about 26 cm tall!

Here are more photos that feature members of our Vernon ISD family participating in the Santa Rosa Rodeo Parade that was held Wednesday afternoon. We had over 200 students, teachers and staff participating in the community event.

Over 200 members of our Vernon ISD family participated in the Santa Rosa Parade held Wednesday afternoon. Our McCord, Elementary School and Middle School all had floats in the parade, while our VHS seniors rode on fire department trucks. Other members of the VISD family rode on floats of various businesses and organizations.

Last week was Science Week for our 1st grade students and science events were held throughout the week. One of those experiments involved using Mentos candy to make a bottled soft drink into a rocket.

One of those involved using a watermelon, putting rubber bands around it and counting how many rubber bands it would take to make it explode. This year it took 285 before the watermelon blew its top.

Last week students in our 1st grade Gifted & Talented Program held a GT Showcase to present their spring semester projects. Each student selected a wild animal to research. The students made a poster board with information and photos of their animal, as well as put together a booklet with information about animals in general and their specific favorite animal.
