Kindergarten Parents: Our Turkey in Disguise projects will be due Tuesday, November 12th, not tomorrow! We hope the long weekend will give you and your students the opportunity to disguise your turkey well enough so they won't be found for thanksgiving dinner! Vernon ISD will be honoring our local veterans at the football Friday night. We have asked four veterans to raise the United States and Texas Flags, and we are inviting Armed Forces veterans to join them at the flagpoles.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month and to show support for our district students and staff who live with diabetes, VISD is encouraging all students and staff to wear blue every Thursday of the month.

There will be a runoff between Jarrod David and Kyle Echols for Place 3 on the VISD school board. No candidate received a majority of the votes. Here are the vote totals: Jarrod David - 1,075 Kyle Echols - 992 Tiffany Rosalez - 947 Tom Scott - 399 Haley Garrett - 238 Thank you to all the candidates for their willingness to serve on our school board. And, thanks to all who voted.

Our McCord Elementary students held their own election today, as they went to the polls to cast their ballot for presidential nominees Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. After marking their ballot, students placed it in the ballot box and received a stamp of the United States flag on the back of their hand. It's never too early to teach children the importance of civic responsibility and of the privileges we have living in the United States of America.

Nomination period for our Vernon ISD Gifted & Talented Program will begin on Nov. 12 and continue until Dec. 20. An informational meeting for parents will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19. There will be 2 opportunities for parents to attend the meeting. One meeting will be held at 1 p.m., in the boardroom at the VISD Administration Building, and the second meeting will be held at 6 p.m., in the VHS Media Center.

Last week, our McCord students were entertained with The NED Show. The character education program centered around the story of NED, which stands for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.

It was Decades Day at McCord we had a lot of 50s, 70s and 80s fashions in our classrooms.

VISD is going back in time tomorrow as it is "Decades Day!" The theme for the Lions Pride Pep Rally is "Kick The Hawks Back In Time!" We're expecting some interesting attire from the 50's, 70's, 80's and 90's!

This week Vernon ISD has an early release for students on Friday. We hope our students enjoy getting a jump on starting their weekend!!

Today's Red Ribbon Week theme at McCord was "Team Up Against Drugs" and students were encouraged to wear a t-shirt or jersey of their favorite team and/or player. There were plenty of Lions roaming the halls, along with some Cowboys, Rangers and a few Michael Jordans!
