Dr. Harrison is here today visiting with our VMS and VHS students about bullying prevention. This morning he was at the high school and this afternoon he'll be talking to our middle school students. Our students were great in the presentation and by now I am no longer even surprised! Please remember that Dr. Harrison will be at the Wilbarger Auditorium TONIGHT at 6:00pm for our parents and the community. Please come out and participate so that we can all work together to prevent bullying in our schools.

We Are Hiring
McCord family, This is a friendly reminder regarding McCord’s morning procedures. Students are to be dropped off on the south side of McCord, also known as the 1st grade playground and cafeteria doors. McCord school opens at 7:15am. After 7:55am, the south side entry will be locked and closed and you will have to drop the students off at the front entrance of the school. Students will be considered tardy for school after 8:05am. Attendance is vital for your student’s learning and development, so please make every attempt for your student to be present. We at VISD understand that nutrition is vital for their well being and learning ability. Because of this, breakfast is FREE for ALL students and begins at 7:45am every morning. We hope you enjoyed having the day off from school and look forward to seeing your smiling faces tomorrow!

February Menu
Over the past couple of weeks, we have had to delay school and cancel a few times due to the weather. Today, we looked into how much time we have lost and how much time we are able to lose before we have to make up any time. At this time, we do NOT have to make up any of the time we have lost. This means that Friday, March 10, will still be a day off for everyone unless we end up with more closures/delays at a later date. Have a great weekend!

We will have school today with our 2 hour delayed start plans in place. Buses will also run 2 hours late. Although wet, the roads are fine, and temperatures are expected to rise as we move through the day.

We currently have moisture on the ground in Vernon and it is expected to continue throughout the night with temperatures expected to hover just above the freezing line overnight. We have decided to be cautious and have a 2 hour delayed start tomorrow, Thursday, February 2. Buses will run 2 hours late as well.

Vernon Community: Vernon ISD will move to close all campuses today, February 1. The threat of precipitation has been enhanced overnight with now a greater than 50% chance of precipitation existing at several times during the day. Stay warm and safe!

Vernon Community: Vernon schools will opt for another 2-hour delay tomorrow, February 1. Buses will run 2 hours late. The rationale behind the decision is we see a current forecast for rain/sleet/snow falling at 10:00a.m. when the temperature will rest at 27 degrees. A 2-hour delay does not help at all in a situation like this but it will help in giving the team and I the time needed to see if things change one way or another. My hat’s off to this staff, who have dealt with quite a few adjustments this week yet are so committed to the mission to teach that they rise and show up even during adverse weather.

McCord is hosting our first ever Winter Blanket Drive! We are accepting blanket donations from February 1st to 14th to help those in need to stay warm in this wintery weather. We kindly ask that the blankets donated be lightly used with no holes or new. Let's spread love and kindness to others in need and bring warmth to all hearts involved.
