Vernon ISD will be conducting a special election to fill the unexpired term of the Place 3 seat on our VISD School Board. Anyone interested in filing to run may pick up a candidate packet at the VISD Administrative Center between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The deadline to return a packet and file to be on the ballot is 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19. Today was Day 3 of 7 Professional Development Days for our Vernon ISD teachers and paraprofessionals as we prepare for the 2024-25 school year. Teachers became students today as they moved from classroom to classroom to attend sessions covering a variety of topics. Session topics included: Classroom Management for Elementary; Classroom Management for Secondary; Dyslexia; Enrichment for High Achievers; the Instructional Cycle; and Promethean Board/GoGuardian.
To maintain and keep our football and track facility in the best condition possible, the public will no longer have 24/7 access to the facility. This will take effect on Aug. 14. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please remember there is a walking trail at Roy Orbison Park and Allingham Park, as well as Wilbarger General Hospital.
The Vernon Boys & Girls Club Back to School Bash is today!!! Head over to the Boys & Girls Club between 4 and 7 tonight to pick up school supplies and let the kiddos play some games and have some fun!

Parents/guardians will need to go to the Vernon Elementary School between the hours of 7 a.m. to noon, and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to register/enroll their child if they have not done so online. Please use the South Parking Lot and enter the building through the South Door. Students register if they were attending VISD schools on the last day of 2023-24. Students enroll if they finished last year at another school district.

DEADLINE TODAY!! The Lions Football Camp is next week and the forecast is for beautiful weather!! The skills and drills the campers will go through will not only help in football, but in other sports as well. Late registration is the morning of the first day of camp, which is Monday.

Camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to Noon and is open to all incoming kindergarten thru 9th grade athletes. Camp drills will improve footwork, hand-eye coordination, throwing/catching mechanics, proper running techniques for football and other sports. Vernon Lions football is just 7 Friday nights away!! The 2024 season opens with the Lions on the road in Burkburnett on Aug. 30. After that, the Lions will play 6 of their remaining 9 regular-season games in the jungle they call home -- Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium.
This Monday, Reserve Seat Season Tickets for those 6 home games go on sale to Lions fans who purchased reserve seats last year. Those fans have until July 25 to reclaim their seats. Reserve seat season tickets go on sale to the general public on July 29.
Tickets can be purchased at the Vernon ISD Administrative Center. A reserve seat pack for the 6-game home season is $36. Please pay by check or cash.

Campers had a great time at the Lions & Lady Lions Basketball Camp that was held the last week of June at D.O. Fulton Gym. Coach Robinson and Coach Wynn thanked all campers for attending and their parents for bringing the youngsters to camp. The coaches also appreciate and wanted to thank Toby Kitchens and Texas Farm Bureau Insurance for sponsoring the camp.
