Fans attending our Middle School and High School basketball games will soon be seeing this flyer posted around the concession stand. The Wilbarger Health Coalition has started a Healthier Concessions Project aimed at assisting local school districts in offering healthier food options in their concession stands. This is not an attempt to remove the candy and soda that everyone loves from the concession stands, but for the concession stands to add healthier options for families supporting our area teams. Vernon ISD wants to know what healthier food options our Lady Lions' and Lions' fans would consider purchasing if available at the concession stand. Here is some information on safe firearm storage. School districts across the State of Texas are now required (House Bill 121) to distribute information regarding safe firearm storage at least three times each school year. We hope everyone follows firearm safety measures and stores their firearm in a secure location.

In our Bluebonnet Curriculum kindergarten students are currently learning everything about a farm -- from the ground up. Earlier this week Mrs. Weddle read "The Little Red Hen" to her class. In the story, the Little Red Hen goes out and harvests wheat while the other animals play, but when winter comes and the other chickens have nothing to eat, the Little Red Hen shares her food. After reading the book, Mrs. Weddle told her students she was going to make bread and students had the option of helping her or going to play. Five students opted to help their teacher. Once the students who hadn't helped smelled that freshly baked bread, they wished they had helped because they wanted some. Like the Little Red Hen, Mrs. Weddle's helpers decided to share their bread with all of their classmates. Mrs. Weddle said this project also tied into their math lessons with measurements using vocabulary word capacity. Students helping her understood that a measuring cup held more than a teaspoon or tablespoon.
