Last Friday, our pre-kindergarten classes to a trip to Sweet Pickins Farm in Altus, Okla. Here are a few pictures.










Today was the last day of Homecoming 2025 Lion Spirit Week and of course, the theme for today was Maroon & White. We saw many of our students decked out in their maroon and white as they walked the halls this morning.

Today's Homecoming 2025 Lions Spirit Day theme was "Coachella" and there were few of our McCord students and staff who wore their best California attire.






Today's Homecoming Lion Spirit Day dress-up theme was "White Lies." The goal was for everyone to wear white and maybe include a fun, little white lie. Our students definitely had some fun with it.





Tuesday was "BBQ Dads & Soccer Mom" dress up day for Homecoming 2025 and we think the BBQ dads ruled the hallways.







Receiving our Kindergarten Student of the Week honors for last week are: Christopher Moo, Amari Parra, Mason Hafer, Blake Ditmore, Karson Echols, and Mia Reyes Gomez. Not pictured is Joanna Sandoval. Congrats!! Keep it up!!

Selected as our 1st Grade Students of the Week for last week were: (front row) Wyatt Corona, Maci Nava and Semaja Junaid; (back row) Sebastian Gonzales, Aithana Mathos, Edwin Diaz Rodriguez, Malaki Shivers, and Ladarius Pitts. Way to go!! Congrats!!

Our Pre-Kindergarten Students of the Week for last week are: Layliana Jasso, Ava Torres, Khalil Thompson, and Rauiri Dean. Great job!! Keep up the good work!

Yesterday our McCord students got to try a Red Pear at snack time. For the second consecutive year, Vernon ISD has received a grant through the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program, which provides different fruits and vegetables for our McCord students to try during their snack time. There were tutus, tiaras and crowns everywhere today as this was "Tutus and Tiaras" was the spirit dress-up theme for the first day of Homecoming Week.




October 6 is National Instructional Coaches Day, and Vernon ISD is lucky to have four wonderful instructional coaches!!! They provide great support to our teachers and help them be the best they can be in the classroom!!

It is HOMECOMING WEEK!! Our Lions will be hosting the Boyd Yellowjackets for the 2025 Homecoming Game Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the 2025 Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime. Single game, reserve seat tickets can be purchased at the Vernon ISD Administration Building until Noon, Friday. General admission tickets must be purchased online at www.vernonisd.org No tickets will be sold at the gate.

Parents, Vernon ISD likes to hear from you and values your input. Please take a moment to complete our parent survey. We do this survey every year, and survey results from previous years have played a part in the district altering various processes and procedures. A few of our students enjoyed dressing as if they were living in another decade last Friday. "Decades Day" was the theme for Lion Spirit Friday.

Our Book Fair has been going on this week and today we held a hamburger feed for our students and parents. During lunch students and parents were able to shop and purchase books at the Book Fair.








Today, Oct. 2, is National Custodian Day and we want to give a big shout out to all the members of our Vernon ISD custodial staff!! They are some of the behind-the-scene, unsung heroes who keep our district running!! We couldn't do it without them!! Thank you to each and everyone of custodians for all you do! You are greatly appreciated!!

Our Vernon homecoming is next Friday, Oct. 10, and we start pumping up that Lion spirit Monday and continue to build it all week with "Dress Up" themes for each day. Get your costumes ready for each day and show that Lion spirit!!!
